The Brakes

One of the reasons the car hadn't been raced in a while was the brakes - they needed three good pumps to give you any kind of chance of stopping. A panic stop was out of the question.

Since many of the braking components were made in the '60s and we didn't know exactly which component was bad, we decided to give the old girl a complete brake job.

For a short period of time we entertained installing an aftermarket four wheel disc setup, but quickly came to our senses when faced with the cost. So for now, we'll just get the OEM setup back in working order.

The Parts:

  • Master Cylinder
  • 4 - Wheel Cylinders
  • 4 - Sets of Brake Shoes
  • 2 - Front Brake Hoses

The Labor: Nothing special, just a standard brake job.

Conclusion: The brake pedal feels great.

One of the reasons the car wouldn't stop was two of the corners had shoes that were on backwards. Don't know the difference this made, but it couldn't have helped.

We had to do some searching around to find the shoes - not a real hot item I guess.
